All rear projection televisions have at least 2 screens - the actual tv screen, called the lenticular,
(it is dark in color and has ridges or fine vertical lines) and the screen behind it
is called the fresnel, which is whitish or frosted in color.

A screen protector goes in front of these two screens and would be considered a third screen.
Usually the manufacturer screen protector has glare and reflections.

The actual TV screen (the lenticular) is very fragile and easy to damage.
It is not much thicker than a few pieces of paper.
A small child, a pet, or even something as simple as bumping into
the TV screen can cause MAJOR damage.






Look at the pictures below and see the kind of damage that can be done by adults and children alike.
The white colored screen you see through the torn screen is the fresnel.
A 5 year old did this damage. He went up
and just tore the lenticular screen up. The
pink coloring to the right is food and juice
that was smashed into the tv.
The fresnel was also scratched up during transport.
WOW! Look at that damage. There is only a
little piece of the lenticular left. This TV was
damaged when it was loaded on to a pick up
truck to be moved from one location to another.
The wind literally beat the lenticular off the TV.

Many televisions come with a factory screen
protector. When you bring it home from the
store and set it up in your house, the picture
doesn't look like it did in the store. Now you have
GLARE on your TV. If you watch TV during the
daytime, you can see your windows (as seen in
left side of TV screen) and if you watch it at
night, you will see the lamps and everything else
reflected on your screen.
This happens when the kids play karate or someone gets pushed into the tv.

This is a 50 Mitsubishi. The lenticular tore in
several different pieces. The kids just
wouldn't leave it alone and kept picking at it.
This resulted in the lenticular being
shredded.
We installed a screen protector after the damage was repaired.
This model of 56 Panasonic does not come
with a screen protector. While it was being
delivered and they were rounding a corner
the tv got knocked into the landing. The
force cracked the fresnel, scratched the
lenticular and you can see where the white
paint came off on the screen.

This is the same tv with a NON-GLARE
screen protector installed. It got rid of ALL
the reflections. You can now watch tv during
the day with the curtains open. And at night
you won't have to worry about seeing your
lamps on your screen instead of your tv show
.
